Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Saccharomyces boulardii** is a nonpathogenic probiotic yeast used orally to support management of diarrheal illnesses. In the registered study sponsored by Muhammad Aamir Latif, it was administered with zinc to children younger than 5 years with acute watery diarrhea and was compared with zinc alone. The study was completed and evaluated time to resolution of diarrhea and vomiting. Proposed effects include modulation of intestinal microbial ecology, reduction of pathogen and toxin activity, support of epithelial barrier function, and modulation of local intestinal immune responses.
