Sagopilone + carboplatin is a combination therapy investigated primarily for the treatment of recurrent platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer. Sagopilone is the first fully synthetic epothilone, a class of microtubule-stabilizing agents that disrupts cell division by interfering with microtubule dynamics, leading to mitotic arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells. Carboplatin is a platinum-containing alkylating agent that causes DNA crosslinking and inhibits DNA synthesis, resulting in cell death. The combination has shown efficacy and manageable toxicity in phase I/II clinical trials for ovarian cancer, with common adverse events including peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, and nausea[1][4][5][6].
