Overview

GSK's low carbon version of Ventolin (salbutamol) is a next-generation metered-dose inhaler (MDI) developed for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This innovative formulation replaces the traditional HFA-134a propellant with HFA-152a, a propellant with significantly lower global warming potential that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 92% per inhaler. Salbutamol, the active ingredient, is a small molecule beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a short-acting bronchodilator to provide rapid relief from respiratory symptoms. Following positive Phase III data in late 2025, the product is positioned as a key component of GSK's sustainability strategy, addressing the significant carbon footprint associated with traditional rescue inhalers.
