Overview
Duofilm is a topical keratolytic medication used for the treatment of common warts, plantar warts, corns, and calluses. It is a combination product containing salicylic acid and lactic acid in a flexible collodion base. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent by increasing skin hydration and dissolving the intercellular substance that causes skin cells to stick together, thereby facilitating the desquamation of the hyperkeratotic skin. Lactic acid serves to enhance the activity of salicylic acid and aids in the breakdown of the skin's keratin structure. The formulation is designed to dry into a thin, flexible film that maintains the active ingredients in contact with the affected area for an extended period. Originally developed by Stiefel Laboratories, the brand was later acquired by GSK and subsequently by STADA Pharmaceuticals in certain regions.
