Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a topical combination therapy consisting of salicylic acid and tacrolimus, primarily studied for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, promoting exfoliation of the stratum corneum and enhancing skin penetration. Tacrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor that suppresses local immune responses by inhibiting T-cell activation and cytokine release. The combination leverages salicylic acid’s ability to increase skin permeability, thereby improving the efficacy of topical tacrolimus in psoriatic plaques, which are otherwise difficult to treat due to poor drug penetration. Clinical studies have shown this regimen can be effective for chronic plaque psoriasis[1][2][3][4].
