Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Salicylic acid + zinc is a topical combination used primarily in dermatology for the treatment of skin conditions such as acne, blemishes, and other minor skin irritations. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, breaking down keratin in the outer layer of the skin and promoting exfoliation. This helps unclog pores and remove dead skin cells. Zinc (often in the form of zinc oxide or pyrithione zinc) provides anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and sebum-regulating effects. The combination accelerates healing, reduces redness and inflammation, controls excess oil production, and inhibits bacterial proliferation on the skin[7][8]. This pairing is commonly found in over-the-counter skincare products targeting acne-prone or oily skin[7].
