Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Saline + adrenaline is a combination intervention consisting of physiological saline (0.9% sodium chloride) and adrenaline (epinephrine). In the context of clinical research conducted by Al Jedaani Hospital, this combination was utilized as a control intervention in a randomized controlled trial evaluating the efficacy of external nasal nerve blocks for the prevention of emergence agitation in adults undergoing elective external nasal surgery. Adrenaline acts as a non-selective adrenergic agonist, providing vasoconstriction to match the experimental arm (which contained lidocaine and adrenaline), while the saline serves as an inactive vehicle. The study aimed to determine if the addition of a local anesthetic to this block could significantly reduce postoperative agitation compared to the saline-adrenaline control.
