Overview

Reference-Institut Bergonié-postoperative pain refers to the saline solution control arm used in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT00163319) evaluating the efficacy of intrapleural ropivacaine for post-thoracotomy pain. In this study, 8 ml of 0.9% saline was administered every 6 hours for 48 hours via an intrapleural catheter. As a placebo, it lacks active analgesic properties and serves as a comparator to measure the therapeutic effect of the experimental local anesthetic in cancer patients undergoing thoracic surgery. The trial was sponsored by Institut Bergonié to determine the analgesic efficacy and pharmacokinetics of ropivacaine in this specific surgical context.
