Overview

Salmeterol + fluticasone is a fixed-dose combination inhaled medication used for the maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It contains two active ingredients: - Fluticasone propionate, an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways. - Salmeterol xinafoate, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle to improve airflow. This combination is not intended for acute relief of asthma or COPD symptoms but as a controller therapy to reduce exacerbations and maintain lung function. It is administered via oral inhalation using specific devices such as Diskus or HFA inhalers[1][3][7].
