Overview

GW815SF is a fixed-dose combination therapy developed by GSK, consisting of the long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (LABA) salmeterol and the inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) fluticasone propionate. Formulated as a hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) metered-dose inhaler (MDI), it is indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Salmeterol provides sustained bronchodilation by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the airway smooth muscle, while fluticasone propionate exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by activating glucocorticoid receptors. This specific formulation was developed to provide a propellant-based alternative to dry powder inhalers (DPI), and its efficacy and safety have been extensively evaluated in both adult and pediatric populations.
