salmeterol + zafirlukast

A combination therapy consisting of salmeterol, a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist (LABA), and zafirlukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA). Salmeterol works by binding to beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, causing relaxation and bronchodilation. Zafirlukast blocks the action of cysteinyl leukotrienes on CysLT1 receptors, reducing airway constriction, mucus production, and inflammation. This combination has been studied for the treatment of asthma, with clinical trials showing that both medications provide benefits in asthma management, though salmeterol demonstrated greater improvements in several efficacy measures.
