Overview
Vaxsafe ST is a live attenuated vaccine derived from *Salmonella Typhimurium* strain STM-1 with an *aroA* gene deletion. This genetic modification renders the bacterium dependent on aromatic compounds for survival, significantly reducing its virulence. The vaccine is used as an aid in controlling colonization and shedding of *Salmonella Typhimurium* and *Salmonella Infantis* in chickens and adult fowls. It has been shown to reduce excretion of virulent *S. Typhimurium* up to 45 weeks of age and *S. Infantis* up to 65 weeks of age, providing protection against these strains as well as some other *Salmonella* serovars. The primary indication is for use in poultry to reduce environmental contamination and egg contamination with *Salmonella* species[1][4][5].
