Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Salmonella vaccine developed by Middle East for Vaccines (MEVAC) is a veterinary biologic designed for the active immunization of poultry against *Salmonella* infections. Typically formulated as an inactivated (killed) oil-emulsion vaccine, it contains specific serotypes such as *Salmonella Enteritidis* and *Salmonella Typhimurium*. The vaccine functions by inducing a humoral immune response, leading to the production of antibodies that help reduce intestinal colonization, organ invasion, and fecal shedding of the bacteria. This is particularly critical in breeder and layer flocks to prevent vertical transmission to progeny and to enhance food safety by reducing the risk of *Salmonella* contamination in eggs and meat.
