Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A herbal combination therapy consisting of extracts from *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen) and *Pueraria lobata* (Gegen), developed by the Department of Medicine & Therapeutics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. This formula is primarily investigated for its cardioprotective and vasoprotective properties, particularly in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and intermittent claudication. The mechanism of action involves the activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) to promote vasodilation, alongside anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects mediated through the inhibition of NF-kappaB and TNF-alpha signaling. Clinical studies have demonstrated its potential to improve endothelial function and blood flow in patients with atherosclerotic vascular diseases.
