Overview

SAM-531 (also known as PF-05212377) is a potent and selective antagonist of the 5-hydroxytryptamine 6 (5-HT6) receptor. It was developed for symptomatic therapy in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. The drug acts by blocking the 5-HT6 receptor, which is implicated in cognitive processes and has been targeted to improve cognition in neurodegenerative diseases[6]. Gemfibrozil is a lipid-regulating agent from the fibrate class used primarily to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients at risk of pancreatitis or cardiovascular disease. It works mainly by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPARα), leading to altered lipid metabolism including increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides[1][3][5]. The combination "SAM-531 + gemfibrozil" refers to co-administration of these two agents, potentially for research or investigational purposes.
