Drug intelligence / Profile preview
San'ao Decoction (SAD) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula traditionally used for the treatment of respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and cough. The formula typically consists of three herbal components: *Ephedra sinica* (Ma Huang), *Prunus armeniaca* (Xing Ren), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gan Cao). SAD exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the immune response, specifically by promoting Th1-type cytokines (such as interferon-gamma) and inhibiting Th2-type cytokines (such as interleukin-4 and interleukin-5), thereby restoring the Th1/Th2 balance. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing airway hyperresponsiveness and modulating airway inflammation in asthma models.
