Overview

SARS-CoV-2 adjuvanted recombinant protein vaccine (D614 + B.1.351) is a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Sanofi in collaboration with GSK. It utilizes a recombinant protein subunit platform where the spike (S) proteins of the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain (containing the D614 mutation) and the Beta variant (B.1.351) are produced using a baculovirus expression system. The vaccine is formulated with GSK's proprietary AS03 adjuvant, an oil-in-water emulsion containing alpha-tocopherol and squalene, designed to boost the immune response and provide broader protection against multiple variants. In clinical trials, such as the Phase 3 VAT08 study and the jRCT2031210159 trial in Japan, the bivalent formulation was evaluated as both a primary series and a booster to address the evolving landscape of SARS-CoV-2 variants.
