Overview

SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine (Omicron XBB.1.5) is an mRNA-based vaccine developed by Walvax Biotechnology for the prevention of COVID-19. It specifically targets the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant by encoding the genetic sequence for its spike protein. Once administered, the mRNA instructs host cells to produce the spike protein, which serves as an antigen to stimulate the immune system. This process induces the production of neutralizing antibodies and activates cellular immune responses (T-cells) to provide protection against infection and severe disease caused by the XBB.1.5 variant and related lineages. The vaccine has been granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in China to address evolving variants of the virus.
