Overview

SARS-CoV-2-University Hospital, Tours refers to an intranasal protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the University of Tours and the University Hospital of Tours, specifically by the BioMAP joint research unit (INRAE/University of Tours). The vaccine is designed to elicit a robust mucosal immune response by targeting both the spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Unlike systemic injectable vaccines, this candidate is administered via the nasal route to induce local secretory IgA antibodies and resident memory T-cells in the respiratory tract, which may provide a superior barrier against viral infection and transmission. The development of this vaccine is supported by the MUCOVID clinical study (NCT05934123), which aims to qualify the analytical methods required to measure mucosal immunity in human subjects.
