Overview

Satralizumab + oral corticosteroids is a combination regimen used for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), particularly in patients who are aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G (AQP4-IgG) seropositive. **Satralizumab** is a humanized IgG2 monoclonal antibody that targets both soluble and membrane-bound interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptors, thereby blocking IL-6-mediated signal transduction, reducing inflammation, and suppressing autoimmune activity[1][2][6][8]. **Oral corticosteroids** are synthetic analogs of glucocorticoids and act as anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agents by modulating gene expression to suppress multiple inflammatory cytokines and immune pathways. The combination is used to maximize relapse prevention and control autoimmune inflammation in NMOSD.
