Satraplatin + radiation therapy is an investigational combination regimen consisting of satraplatin, an oral platinum(IV) chemotherapeutic agent, administered concurrently with external beam radiation therapy. Satraplatin acts as a platinum-based DNA crosslinking agent, causing DNA damage and cell death in rapidly dividing tumor cells. In this combination, satraplatin is evaluated as a radiosensitizer, aiming to enhance the cytotoxic effects of radiation on tumor tissues. This strategy has been explored in early-phase (mainly phase I) clinical trials, particularly for non-small cell lung cancer and squamous cell head and neck cancer. The main toxicity observed is myelosuppression, and doses for further clinical use have been determined in these studies[1][2].
