Overview

SBI-183 + SPX-1009 is a program of small molecule inhibitors targeting Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1), developed by Sapphire Biotech (a subsidiary of AXIM Biotechnologies) under the Essaim pipeline. SBI-183 serves as the parent compound, while SPX-1009 is a next-generation analog identified for its significantly higher potency in suppressing tumor cell invasion and metastasis. QSOX1 is an enzyme overexpressed in various aggressive cancers that facilitates the folding of extracellular matrix proteins, thereby promoting tumor progression. These inhibitors are designed to disrupt this enzymatic activity, particularly in the context of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), sarcomatoid kidney cancer, and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Preclinical development has focused on evaluating these compounds as monotherapies and in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy to enhance anti-neoplastic efficacy.
