Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SCB-2019 + alum adjuvant is a **protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine** composed of a recombinant, trimeric pre-fusion SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (SCB-2019) formulated with an **aluminum hydroxide (alum) adjuvant**, and often also includes CpG 1018. The spike protein is stabilized using Trimer-Tag technology to preserve its native prefusion structure, with the adjuvant included to enhance immunogenicity. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly, primarily in a two-dose schedule spaced four weeks apart. It functions by eliciting a strong antibody and cellular immune response against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, providing protection against COVID-19 infection, severe disease, and hospitalization. It has shown efficacy in Phase II/III trials and received regulatory authorization in China.
