Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Seladelpar + ursodeoxycholic acid is a combination therapeutic regimen used for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) in adults who have had an inadequate response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) monotherapy. Seladelpar is an orally active, selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPAR-delta) agonist that regulates genes involved in bile acid synthesis, inflammation, and fibrosis. Ursodeoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring, hydrophilic bile acid that decreases the cholesterol content of bile and reduces the toxic effects of endogenous hydrophobic bile acids on hepatocytes and cholangiocytes. Together, the co-administration of these two agents provides a synergistic therapeutic effect, significantly reducing alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and improving symptoms such as pruritus in patients with PBC.
