Selected Vegetables + Sun's Soup

Selected Vegetables/Sun's Soup is a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) consisting of various mixtures of vegetables and herbs, originally developed in the mid-1980s by Dr. Alexander Sun. The formulations, available in freeze-dried (DSV) and frozen (FSV) forms, contain a complex array of ingredients including soybean, shiitake mushroom, mung bean, red date, and various Chinese herbs like Hedyotis diffusa and Scutellaria barbata. The mixture is hypothesized to possess anticancer and immune-system-stimulating properties, attributed to phytochemicals such as protease inhibitors, plant sterols, isoflavones (e.g., genistein, daidzein), and beta-glucans (e.g., lentinan). It has been primarily investigated as an adjunctive treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to improve survival and quality of life, and has also been studied in conditions like AIDS and metastatic kidney cancer. Despite undergoing Phase I/II and randomized Phase III clinical evaluation, it remains classified as a dietary supplement in the United States and has not received FDA approval for any therapeutic indication.
