Overview

Sensodyne Repair & Protect is a desensitizing toothpaste developed by Haleon (formerly GSK Consumer Healthcare) for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. The formulation's primary active ingredient is **NovaMin** (calcium sodium phosphosilicate), a bioactive glass technology. When exposed to saliva, NovaMin releases calcium and phosphate ions that form a robust, hydroxyapatite-like mineral layer over exposed dentin and within open dentinal tubules. This process, known as tubule occlusion, physically blocks the transmission of external stimuli (such as heat, cold, or air) to the dental nerves, thereby reducing sensitivity pain. The specific formulation used in clinical study RH01748 contains 1450 ppm fluoride as sodium monofluorophosphate to provide anti-caries benefits and support remineralization. It is clinically proven to provide both immediate and long-lasting relief from dentin hypersensitivity with twice-daily brushing.
