Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sentra PM + trazodone is a combination of a medical food (Sentra PM) and a pharmaceutical antidepressant (trazodone) used primarily for the management of sleep disorders. Sentra PM is formulated to restore and maintain the balance of neurotransmitters, specifically serotonin and acetylcholine, which are associated with sleep regulation. It contains amino acids such as L-tryptophan and choline, along with other components like cocoa, Ginkgo biloba, and hawthorn berry. Trazodone is a triazolopyridine derivative classified as a serotonin receptor antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI). It acts by inhibiting serotonin reuptake in the brain while antagonizing certain serotonin receptors, leading to improved mood, reduced anxiety, sedation, and enhanced sleep quality. The combination has been shown in clinical studies to improve both quality of sleep and depressive symptoms more effectively than either agent alone[1][2][3][5][6][7].
