The combination or comparative use of serratiopeptidase and dexamethasone is primarily investigated for the management of post-operative inflammation, pain, and edema, particularly following dental procedures such as tooth extraction (exodontia). Serratiopeptidase is a proteolytic enzyme derived from the non-pathogenic enterobacterium *Serratia* E-15. It exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-edemic effects by degrading inflammatory exudates and mediators like fibrin and bradykinin, thereby reducing swelling and improving tissue repair. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid that acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It suppresses multiple inflammatory pathways by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and stabilizing lysosomal membranes.
