Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The serum-free rabies vaccine is a freeze-dried human rabies vaccine developed by Ningbo Rong'an Biological Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of AIM Vaccine Co., Ltd. It is produced using an innovative serum-free Vero cell culture technology, which distinguishes it from traditional rabies vaccines that typically utilize bovine serum during the cell growth phase. By eliminating animal-derived serum, the vaccine minimizes the risk of contamination by exogenous pathogens and reduces the presence of residual proteins, potentially leading to an improved safety profile with fewer adverse reactions and enhanced immunogenicity. The vaccine is designed to induce active immunity against the rabies virus for post-exposure prophylaxis or pre-exposure immunization. It has completed Phase III clinical trials and is listed as approved in the developer's pipeline.
