Overview
sevoflurane + cyclopropofol is a combination anesthetic regimen being evaluated for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Sevoflurane is a widely used volatile inhalational anesthetic that induces and maintains general anesthesia by modulating GABA-A, glycine, and NMDA receptors. Cyclopropofol (also known as ciprofol or cyclophenol) is a novel intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent and a structural analogue of propofol, acting as a potent GABA-A receptor agonist. While sevoflurane is often associated with a higher incidence of PONV, propofol-based agents are known for their antiemetic effects. This combination, studied in trials led by Mengchang Yang (NCT05837156), aims to optimize anesthetic depth while mitigating emetic side effects in high-risk surgical patients.
