Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shen'ge Formula (SGF) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal combination consisting of ginseng and gecko in a 3:1 weight ratio[8]. It is primarily used as a cardioprotective agent for heart failure, particularly diastolic heart failure (DHF)[2][3][8]. Preclinical studies have shown that SGF can preserve cardiac function, improve symptoms, reduce cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis in animal models of pressure overload-induced heart failure[2][8]. Clinical studies suggest that when combined with conventional Western medicine, SGF improves ventricular contractility and overall heart function while reducing serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP)/NT-proBNP levels in patients with heart failure[3]. The mechanism of action appears to involve multiple pathways related to myocardial protection but is not fully elucidated. The formula has a long history of clinical use in China for cardiovascular conditions.
