Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenqing capsule (also known as Shenqing Jiaonang) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). The capsule is primarily indicated for patients with mild to moderate active UC. It is composed of herbal extracts, typically including *Radix Ginseng* and *Indigo Naturalis*, which are intended to clear heat, detoxify, and promote the healing of the intestinal mucosa. The therapeutic effects are thought to be mediated through the modulation of the immune response, reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway to enhance intestinal barrier function. Clinical evaluation has included multicenter, randomized, double-blind trials comparing its efficacy and safety to standard treatments like mesalazine.
