Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenzhuo Decoction (SZF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). It is a modified version of the classic Didang Tang formula, specifically designed to treat macroalbuminuria in patients with type 2 DKD. The formula consists of six primary herbs: Astragalus membranaceus, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Leech (Whitmania pigra), Raw Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum), Epimedium, and Motherwort (Leonurus japonicus). SZF functions by replenishing qi and promoting blood circulation according to TCM principles. Research indicates it may delay the progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) by reducing proteinuria, preserving renal function as measured by estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and modulating inflammatory responses and the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway. It was founded by Academician Tong Xiaolin and has been extensively studied in randomized controlled trials by Liu Hongfang at Dongzhimen Hospital.
