Overview

**SHR117887 + metformin** is an investigational combination drug comprised of SHR117887, a novel competitive dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and metformin, a first-line biguanide antidiabetic agent. SHR117887 is structurally distinct from available DPP-4 inhibitors and developed by Jiangsu Hansoh Pharmaceutical for type 2 diabetes[2]. The combination is intended to synergistically lower blood glucose via dual mechanisms: SHR117887 inhibits DPP-4, increasing circulating active glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which promotes insulin secretion and reduces glucagon; metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases gastrointestinal glucose absorption, and enhances insulin sensitivity. This dual approach aims for improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes, leveraging both incretin enhancement and hepatic/glucose handling pathways.
