Overview

This is a combination of two drugs, sibutramine and clarithromycin. Sibutramine is a centrally-acting appetite suppressant formerly used for weight loss and obesity management; it works primarily by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain. Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections by inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. When administered together, clarithromycin can significantly increase plasma concentrations of sibutramine due to inhibition of hepatic metabolism (notably CYP3A4), potentially raising the risk of adverse effects associated with sibutramine[1][4][5][8]. This combination does not have an established therapeutic indication as a fixed product; co-administration may occur incidentally or during drug interactions.
