Overview

This combination therapy is a multi-component regimen investigated by Zagazig University for the regression of liver fibrosis in patients with compensated cirrhosis who have achieved a sustained virological response (SVR) following Hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment. The regimen consists of silymarin (a milk thistle extract with antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties), ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA, a bile acid with cytoprotective and immunomodulatory effects), a specific antioxidant blend (beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E), and colchicine (an anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits microtubule polymerization and collagen synthesis). The therapy aims to halt or reverse the progression of liver fibrosis by targeting oxidative stress, inflammatory cascades, and fibrotic processes in the liver that may persist even after the viral cause has been eradicated.
