Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simethicone + macrogol 4000 is a combination gastrointestinal product used for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy and for the symptomatic treatment of chronic constipation. Macrogol 4000 (polyethylene glycol 4000) is an osmotic laxative that increases fecal water content and stool volume, thereby softening feces and facilitating bowel evacuation. Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing foam formation and improving mucosal visibility during endoscopic procedures. Branded formulations such as Clensia often include additional electrolytes and sodium sulfate to maintain fluid balance during bowel preparation.
