simethicone + phloroglucinol

Meteoxane is an oral combination therapy consisting of simethicone (125 mg) and phloroglucinol hydrate (80 mg), developed and marketed by Laboratoires IPRAD. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of abdominal pain associated with functional bowel disorders, particularly those involving intestinal gas and bloating, including painful flares of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Simethicone acts as a surfactant anti-foaming agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract, facilitating their coalescence and elimination. Phloroglucinol is a non-atropinergic musculotropic antispasmodic that acts directly on smooth muscle to reduce involuntary digestive contractions without the anticholinergic side effects typical of atropine-like drugs. The product has been commercially available as an over-the-counter medication in France since 1971.
