Simvastatin + Biodentine is an experimental combination therapy being investigated by researchers at Suez Canal University for vital pulpotomy in primary molars. Simvastatin, a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor typically used for hypercholesterolemia, is repurposed here for its pleiotropic effects, including the promotion of odontoblast differentiation and reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8). Biodentine is a bioactive tricalcium silicate-based cement used as a dentin substitute. The combination aims to enhance the regenerative potential of the dental pulp and improve the success rate of pulp capping procedures in pediatric patients with pulpitis. Clinical trial results have indicated that the combination significantly outperforms simvastatin alone in maintaining pulp vitality and promoting healing.
