Overview

This is a fixed-dose combination of two agents: - **Simvastatin** is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) used to lower cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a central role in the production of cholesterol in the liver. It reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby reducing cardiovascular risk[7]. - **Micronized trans-resveratrol** is a formulation of resveratrol—a polyphenolic compound found naturally in certain plants—processed into smaller particles to enhance absorption. Resveratrol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet, and angiogenic properties. It inhibits key steps in the mevalonate pathway (including HMG-CoA reductase), complementing statin action[2][3][6]. The combination has been shown experimentally to provide synergistic effects on lowering cholesterol biosynthesis and enhancing cardioprotection compared to either agent alone. Mechanistically, both inhibit HMG-CoA reductase but via partly complementary pathways; together they more potently reduce lipid levels and may further decrease cardiomyocyte apoptosis after ischemic injury[1][3]. The combination may also have potential applications for other metabolic or inflammatory conditions.
