Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simvastatin + thymoquinone is an experimental combination of simvastatin, a cholesterol-lowering HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, and thymoquinone, the bioactive constituent of Nigella sativa, currently studied for potential anticancer synergism. Simvastatin inhibits the mevalonate pathway, disrupting tumor cell membrane synthesis and proliferation, while thymoquinone exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-apoptotic activities. Together, they have demonstrated enhanced apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and increased cytotoxicity in breast cancer cell lines, particularly when delivered via nanostructured lipid carriers for improved intracellular delivery and efficacy[1][2].
