Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SinoFuan is a sustained-release implant formulation of the antimetabolite fluorouracil, developed and marketed by Simcere Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for regional chemotherapy, primarily administered via intraperitoneal implantation during surgery for gastrointestinal malignancies such as gastric and colorectal cancers. The formulation allows for the localized, high-concentration delivery of fluorouracil directly to the tumor site or peritoneal cavity, which helps to eradicate residual cancer cells and prevent recurrence while reducing systemic side effects compared to intravenous administration. As a pyrimidine analog, fluorouracil acts as a thymidylate synthase inhibitor, thereby blocking the synthesis of thymidine monophosphate and disrupting DNA replication and repair, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in rapidly dividing neoplastic cells.
