Overview
This combination therapy consists of sintilimab and cetuximab, being evaluated for the treatment of locally advanced oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas. Sintilimab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, acting as an immune checkpoint inhibitor to restore T-cell function against tumor cells. Cetuximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), inhibiting downstream signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation and survival. The treatment strategy, as investigated by Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital, involves a neoadjuvant phase followed by surgery and adjuvant maintenance to improve outcomes in resectable head and neck cancers.
