siRNA (CaSR) refers to small interfering RNA molecules designed to silence the expression of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR). In the context of oncology research, specifically prostate cancer, CaSR has been found to be upregulated in chemoresistant cell lines. Knockdown of CaSR using siRNA has been shown to diminish tumor cell migration, invasion, and colony formation while reactivating sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents like paclitaxel. This effect is associated with the reversal of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype, characterized by increased E-cadherin and decreased Snail, Vimentin, and β-catenin expression. The research into siRNA (CaSR) is primarily preclinical and academic, exploring the receptor's role in tumorigenesis and drug resistance.
