Sitagliptin + insulin

Sitagliptin + insulin is a combination therapy used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin is an oral small molecule that acts as a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, which increases levels of active incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), leading to increased glucose-dependent insulin secretion and decreased glucagon secretion. Insulin is a biologic hormone therapy that directly lowers blood glucose by promoting cellular uptake of glucose. The combination is used when glycemic control cannot be achieved with either agent alone, providing complementary mechanisms to improve blood sugar regulation in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus[1][3][5].
