SLx-4090 + metformin

SLx-4090 + metformin is an investigational oral combination drug composed of SLx-4090, a small molecule inhibitor of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP), and metformin, a well-established insulin sensitizer. SLx-4090 acts selectively in enterocytes of the gastrointestinal tract to inhibit MTP and prevent chylomicron formation, reducing absorption of triglycerides and cholesterol into systemic circulation[2][3][4][5][9]. Metformin acts primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity. The combination is being studied to improve glycemic control (lower HbA1c) and reduce lipid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, with the aim of superior efficacy over metformin monotherapy[1][3][6][8]. SLx-4090 is designed to avoid the hepatic toxicities seen with previous MTP inhibitors[4][5]. Surface Logix (now defunct) developed SLx-4090, and trials have explored its safety and efficacy in metabolic and lipid disorders including diabetes and dyslipidemia[4].
