Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SLx-4090 + statin is an investigational combination therapy consisting of **SLx-4090**, a selective intestinal microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) inhibitor, and a **statin** (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). SLx-4090 inhibits MTP in enterocytes, reducing the assembly and secretion of chylomicrons and thus decreasing intestinal triglyceride and cholesterol absorption. Statins inhibit HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis and upregulating LDL receptors to lower plasma LDL cholesterol. Combination use is proposed to address both hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia, potentially offering additive or synergistic lipid-lowering effects, especially in patients with rare or refractory hyperlipidemias such as Type I hyperlipoproteinemia, or as an approach to overcome the residual cardiovascular risk seen in patients on statin monotherapy. SLx-4090 is developed by Surface Logix. Statins are a well-established drug class with multiple generic and brand formulations[2][4][1].
