Sodium (3-oxo-(17r)-17-28-norolean-12(13)-en)-2-oxoethyl-phosphonate is a semisynthetic pentacyclic triterpenoid derivative of oleanonic acid (the 3-oxo derivative of oleanolic acid). It features a sodium methylphosphonate moiety at the C17 position, a modification designed to improve the pharmacokinetic profile and bioavailability of the parent triterpenoid. In preclinical evaluations using the B164A5 murine melanoma cell line, this derivative demonstrated significant dose-dependent antiproliferative and anti-migratory activities. The compound appears to induce apoptosis, as evidenced by increased nuclear condensation in related oleanane derivatives, while maintaining a safety profile similar to its parent triterpenoids, as indicated by LDH and HET-CAM assays. It is currently being researched as a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of melanoma.
