Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Sodium acetate + potassium chloride + magnesium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium gluconate** is a balanced, isotonic multi-electrolyte solution supplied primarily as an intravenous crystalloid replacement fluid, including under the brands Plasma-Lyte A and Plasma-Lyte 148, and as the Physiolyte irrigant. It replenishes water and physiologic electrolytes while acetate and gluconate are metabolized with net hydrogen-ion consumption, providing an alkalinizing effect. The intravenous solution contains approximately 140 mEq/L sodium, 98 mEq/L chloride, 5 mEq/L potassium, 3 mEq/L magnesium, 27 mEq/L acetate, and 23 mEq/L gluconate, with calculated osmolarity of approximately 294 mOsmol/L. It is used as a source of water and electrolytes and as an alkalinizing agent; the irrigant presentation is intended for sterile general irrigation, rinsing, and washing.
