V0337 SO 01A is an oral suspension combination of sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate developed by Pierre Fabre Medicament for the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The drug functions as a reflux suppressant by forming a physical barrier, or "raft," that floats on the surface of the stomach contents. This raft is formed when the sodium alginate reacts with gastric acid to create a pH-neutral alginic acid gel, while the potassium bicarbonate reacts with the acid to produce carbon dioxide bubbles that become trapped in the gel, allowing it to float. This barrier physically prevents the reflux of acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. Additionally, the bicarbonate component provides a buffering effect to neutralize gastric acidity. V0337 SO 01A has demonstrated efficacy in reducing symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation in Phase III clinical trials.
